These are the visions I saw while lying in my bed: I looked, and there before me stood a tree in the middle of the land. Its height was enormous.

About this Chapter

In Daniel chapter 4, King Nebuchadnezzar has a dream about a great tree that is cut down, and he seeks Daniel's interpretation of the dream. Daniel explains that the tree represents Nebuchadnezzar himself, and the dream is a warning from God. God will humble Nebuchadnezzar and he will live like a wild animal until he acknowledges that God is the Most High and that His kingdom is everlasting. True to Daniel's interpretation, Nebuchadnezzar loses his sanity and lives like a wild animal for seven years. At the end of the appointed time, Nebuchadnezzar lifts his eyes to heaven and his sanity is restored. He praises and honors God, acknowledging His sovereignty and greatness.
