About this Chapter

In this chapter, Daniel has a vision of four great beasts coming up out of the sea. These beasts represent four kingdoms that will rise to power on the earth. The fourth beast is described as terrifying and different from the others, with large iron teeth and ten horns. As Daniel continues to watch, thrones are set up and the Ancient of Days takes his seat. He is described as being clothed in white and having hair as white as wool. Thousands upon thousands attend him and ten thousand times ten thousand stand before him. The court is seated and the books are opened. Then Daniel sees in his vision one like a son of man coming with the clouds of heaven. He approaches the Ancient of Days and is given authority, glory and sovereign power over all nations and peoples of every language. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed. Daniel is troubled by the visions he has seen and asks for their meaning. He is told that the four beasts represent four kingdoms that will rise to power, but their dominion will be taken away and given to the holy people of the Most High. The son of man represents the saints of the Most High, who will receive the kingdom and possess it forever.
