Hosea 11:1
"When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son.

About this Chapter

In this chapter, Hosea speaks about God's deep love and compassion for Israel, despite their continued disobedience and idolatry. He begins by recalling how God called Israel out of Egypt and loved them as a father loves his son. However, the more God called them, the more they went away from Him and turned to idols. God's heart is torn between anger and compassion. He cannot give up on His people, even though they have repeatedly rejected Him. He laments over their unfaithfulness and the consequences they will face because of it. Yet, His love for them is so great that He cannot completely destroy them. In the end, God promises to gather His people back to Himself. Although they will face punishment for their sins, He will not execute His fierce anger against them. He will restore them and show them His love once again, just as He did when He brought them out of Egypt.
