Easy Bible・Hosea 12
Hosea 12:6
But you must return to your God; maintain love and justice, and wait for your God always.
In this chapter, the prophet Hosea addresses the deceitful nature of Jacob and the sins of Israel. Hosea recounts how Jacob deceived his brother Esau and how he wrestled with God and prevailed. He emphasizes that Jacob's descendants, the Israelites, should learn from their ancestor's deceitful ways and turn back to God. Hosea then highlights the sins of Israel, including idolatry, falsehood, and oppression. He condemns their reliance on foreign nations for security and wealth, instead of trusting in God. The prophet warns that God will punish them for their unfaithfulness and calls them to repentance. In the midst of Israel's sin and impending judgment, Hosea reminds them of God's faithfulness throughout their history. He recounts how God led them out of Egypt and cared for them in the wilderness. Despite their rebellion, God remained steadfast in His love for them. Hosea urges the Israelites to return to God, seek His forgiveness, and live in obedience to His commands.
