Easy Bible・Amos 4
Amos 4:12
"Therefore this is what I will do to you, Israel, and because I will do this to you, prepare to meet your God, O Israel."
Amos 4 reveals God's repeated attempts to bring the people of Israel to repentance. The chapter begins with God addressing the women of Samaria, who oppress the poor and demand more luxury for themselves. God warns them of the impending judgment, saying that they will be taken away with hooks and fishhooks. He then recounts the various punishments He has brought upon the people, including drought, blight, locusts, and pestilence, yet the people have not returned to Him. God challenges them to prepare to meet Him, for He will bring judgment upon them. In the midst of their rebellion, God reminds them that He is the one who gives them everything they have. He controls the rain and the crops, and without His blessing, they would have nothing. Despite this, the people have turned to false gods, offering sacrifices and tithes, but without true repentance. God calls them to repent and seek Him, to turn from their wicked ways and return to Him. Amos 4 serves as a warning to the people of Israel, and to us today, that God desires true repentance and obedience. It is not enough to simply go through the motions of religious rituals; God desires a genuine heart change. He longs for His people to turn from their sin and seek Him wholeheartedly. May we heed this warning and respond with true repentance and obedience to God.
