Easy Bible・Amos 7
Amos 7:8
And the LORD asked me, "What do you see, Amos?A plumb line," I replied. Then the Lord said, "Look, I am setting a plumb line among my people Israel; I will spare them no longer.
In Amos 7, the prophet Amos has a vision from the Lord. In this vision, the Lord showed Amos a swarm of locusts devouring the crops, but Amos interceded and asked the Lord to forgive. The Lord relented and did not bring the disaster. Then, the Lord showed Amos a vision of a wall being built with a plumb line. The plumb line represents the Lord's standard of righteousness, and the wall represents Israel. However, the wall was not straight, indicating that Israel had deviated from God's standard. This vision signifies the impending judgment upon Israel for their sins. Amos then had a confrontation with Amaziah, the priest of Bethel. Amaziah accused Amos of conspiring against the king and told him to go back to Judah and prophesy there. Amos responded by saying that he was not a professional prophet, but a simple shepherd whom the Lord had called to speak His words. Amos prophesied against Amaziah and predicted that his wife would become a prostitute, his children would be killed, and his land would be divided. Amos 7 teaches us the importance of standing up for righteousness and speaking the truth, even in the face of opposition. It also reminds us that God's judgment will come upon those who deviate from His standard of righteousness. As believers, we are called to live according to God's Word and to boldly proclaim His truth, regardless of the consequences.
