Easy Bible・Amos 8
Amos 8:11
"The days are coming," declares the Sovereign LORD, "when I will send a famine through the land- not a famine of food or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the LORD.
In Amos 8, God pronounces judgment on Israel for their oppression of the poor and their dishonest practices. He declares that a time will come when there will be a famine, not of food or water, but of hearing the words of the Lord. People will wander from sea to sea, seeking the word of the Lord, but they will not find it. The people who swear by the name of false gods and swear by the name of the Lord, but do not do so sincerely, will fall and never rise again. God will punish the oppressors and bring darkness upon the land. It will be a time of mourning and lamentation, as God will turn their feasts into mourning and their songs into lamentation. However, amidst the judgment, there is a promise of restoration. God declares that he will restore the fortunes of his people and they will no longer be forgotten. He will bring back the exiles and rebuild the ruined cities. The land will be fruitful once again, and they will live securely in it. God will plant them in their own land, and they will never be uprooted again.
