Jonah 4:1
But Jonah was greatly displeased and became angry.

About this Chapter

In Jonah 4, Jonah becomes angry and displeased when God shows compassion to the people of Nineveh. Jonah had originally been sent by God to warn the people of Nineveh of their impending destruction, but when they repented, God relented from bringing disaster upon them. This made Jonah angry because he wanted to see Nineveh destroyed. Jonah goes outside the city and sits down to see what will happen to Nineveh. God causes a plant to grow and provide shade for Jonah, which makes him very happy. But the next day, God sends a worm to attack the plant, causing it to wither and die. Jonah becomes even more angry and wishes for death. God questions Jonah's anger and explains that Jonah is more concerned about the plant than the people of Nineveh. God's compassion extends to all people, and He desires for them to turn away from their wickedness and be saved. The book of Jonah ends with God's question, challenging Jonah's perspective and revealing His love and mercy for all.
