Micah 1:2
Hear, O peoples, all of you, listen, O earth and all who are in it, that the Sovereign LORD may witness against you, the Lord from his holy temple.

About this Chapter

In this chapter, the prophet Micah pronounces God's judgment on both Israel and Judah for their sins. He begins by describing how God will come down from His holy temple and the mountains will melt beneath Him. The judgment will be so severe that the cities and their foundations will be laid bare, and all the idols and false gods will be destroyed. Micah specifically mentions the cities of Samaria and Jerusalem, which represent the northern and southern kingdoms respectively. He warns the people of these cities to mourn and lament, as their destruction is imminent. The judgment is a result of their rebellion against God and their worship of false gods. The chapter ends with Micah expressing his own grief and anguish over the impending judgment. He weeps and wails like a mournful woman, as he sees the devastation that is about to come upon his people. Despite the severity of the judgment, there is still hope for restoration and redemption, which Micah will later proclaim in the following chapters.
