Haggai 1:2
This is what the LORD Almighty says: "These people say, 'The time has not yet come for the LORD's house to be built.'"

About this Chapter

In the second year of King Darius, on the first day of the sixth month, the word of the Lord came through the prophet Haggai to Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua son of Jozadak, the high priest: 'This is what the Lord Almighty says: These people say, 'The time has not yet come to rebuild the Lord's house.'' The people of Judah had returned from exile in Babylon, but they had neglected to rebuild the temple of the Lord. Instead, they focused on their own houses and their own comfort, while the house of God remained in ruins. The prophet Haggai delivered a message from the Lord, rebuking the people for their negligence and calling them to prioritize the restoration of God's house. The Lord reminded the people that their lack of prosperity and satisfaction was a result of their disregard for His house. He urged them to consider their ways and to start rebuilding the temple, so that He may be pleased and glorified. The people listened to the prophet's words and were stirred to action, beginning the work of rebuilding the temple.
