Easy Bible・Malachi 1
Malachi 1:2
"I have loved you," says the LORD. "But you ask, 'How have you loved us?'"Was not Esau Jacob's brother?" the LORD says. "Yet I have loved Jacob,
In Malachi 1, the Lord expresses His love for Israel and confronts them about their lack of respect and honor towards Him. The Lord declares that He has loved Israel and chosen them as His people, but the people question His love. The Lord reminds them of His love by contrasting it with His rejection of Edom, a neighboring nation. The Lord had chosen Jacob and rejected Esau, showing His favor towards Israel. However, the people of Israel have not shown the same honor and respect towards the Lord. They offer defiled sacrifices and show a lack of reverence towards Him. The Lord expresses His disappointment and warns them of the consequences of their actions. He declares that He would not accept their offerings and would rather have the gates of the temple closed, so that they would not offer meaningless sacrifices. The Lord desires sincere and pure worship from His people. He deserves to be honored and respected, but Israel has failed to do so. The chapter ends with a reminder of the Lord's greatness and His name being feared among the nations. Despite Israel's shortcomings, the Lord's love for them remains, but He expects them to show Him the honor and reverence He deserves.
