Mark 1:9
At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan.

About this Chapter

In Mark 1, Jesus' ministry begins with his baptism by John the Baptist in the Jordan River. As Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens opened, and the Spirit of God descended on him like a dove. Then a voice from heaven said, 'You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.' After his baptism, Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, where he was tempted by Satan for forty days. He overcame the temptations and began his ministry in Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. Jesus called his first disciples, Simon, Andrew, James, and John, who were fishermen. They immediately left their nets and followed him. Jesus taught with authority and performed miracles, healing the sick and driving out demons. News about him spread quickly throughout the region.
