Mark 9:2
After six days Jesus took Peter, James and John with him and led them up a high mountain, where they were all alone. There he was transfigured before them.

About this Chapter

In Mark 9, Jesus took Peter, James, and John up a high mountain, where he was transfigured before them. His clothes became dazzling white, and Elijah and Moses appeared and were talking with Jesus. Peter, not knowing what to say, suggested building shelters for them. Then a cloud appeared and a voice from the cloud said, 'This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!' After the voice, Jesus was found alone with the disciples, and they kept silent about what they had seen. When they came down from the mountain, they saw a large crowd around the other disciples, arguing with them. A man in the crowd came to Jesus and begged him to heal his son who had a spirit that robbed him of speech. Jesus rebuked the impure spirit and commanded it to leave the boy. The spirit left, and the boy was healed. The disciples asked Jesus why they couldn't drive out the spirit, and Jesus explained that such spirits can only come out by prayer. Jesus then predicted his own death and resurrection, but the disciples did not understand what he meant. They were arguing among themselves about who was the greatest, and Jesus taught them that whoever wants to be first must be the very last and the servant of all. He took a little child and placed the child among them, saying that anyone who welcomes a child in his name welcomes Jesus himself.
