Easy Bible・Mark 10
Mark 10:2
Some Pharisees came and tested him by asking, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?"
In Mark 10, Jesus is approached by some Pharisees who ask him about the legality of divorce. Jesus responds by reminding them of God's original plan for marriage, stating that divorce was allowed by Moses due to the hardness of people's hearts, but it was not God's intention from the beginning. Jesus emphasizes that when a man and a woman are joined together in marriage, they become one flesh, and what God has joined together, no one should separate. The disciples then privately ask Jesus about this teaching, and he explains to them that whoever divorces their spouse and marries another commits adultery, unless the divorce was due to sexual immorality. Jesus' teaching on divorce reflects his high view of marriage as a sacred and lifelong commitment. This passage reminds us of the importance of honoring the marriage covenant and the seriousness of divorce. It challenges us to value and uphold the sanctity of marriage, and to seek reconciliation and forgiveness rather than resorting to divorce.
