Easy Bible・Mark 14
Mark 14:22
While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, "Take it; this is my body."
In Mark 14, Jesus and his disciples gathered together to celebrate the Passover meal. During the meal, Jesus took bread, gave thanks, broke it, and gave it to them, saying, 'Take it; this is my body.' Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, and they all drank from it. Jesus said, 'This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many.' After the meal, they went to the Mount of Olives, where Jesus told his disciples that they would all fall away because of him. Peter insisted that he would not, but Jesus told him that before the rooster crowed twice, Peter would disown him three times. Later that night, in the garden of Gethsemane, Jesus prayed to God, asking if it was possible for the cup of suffering to be taken away from him. However, he submitted to God's will, saying, 'Yet not what I will, but what you will.' While Jesus was still praying, Judas arrived with a crowd armed with swords and clubs. Judas betrayed Jesus with a kiss, and the crowd arrested him. Mark 14 shows us the significance of the Last Supper, where Jesus instituted the sacrament of communion, symbolizing his body and blood. It also reveals Jesus' foreknowledge of his disciples' desertion and Peter's denial. In the garden of Gethsemane, we witness Jesus' submission to God's plan and his betrayal by Judas. This chapter sets the stage for Jesus' arrest and the events leading to his crucifixion.
