Easy Bible・Luke 10
Luke 10:1
After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go.
In Luke 10, Jesus sends out seventy-two disciples ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go. He tells them to pray for more workers because the harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. He gives them specific instructions on how to go: like lambs among wolves, carrying no money bag, no knapsack, and no sandals. They are to stay in one house in each town and eat and drink what is offered to them. They are to heal the sick and tell the people that the kingdom of God has come near. Jesus warns them that not everyone will receive them well and tells them to shake the dust off their feet as a testimony against those who reject them. He assures them that those who reject them are actually rejecting him and the one who sent him. The disciples return with joy, saying that even the demons submitted to them in Jesus' name. Jesus tells them not to rejoice in this power, but to rejoice that their names are written in heaven. Jesus then gives thanks to the Father for revealing the truth to the simple and hiding it from the wise and learned. He tells his disciples that they are blessed to see and hear what they see and hear, because many prophets and kings desired to see and hear what they see and hear, but did not. Jesus tells a parable of the Good Samaritan to teach about loving one's neighbor, and ends the chapter with a visit to the house of Mary and Martha.
