And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, "This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me."

About this Chapter

In Luke 22, Jesus gathers with his disciples to celebrate the Passover meal, which is also known as the Last Supper. During the meal, Jesus takes bread, gives thanks, breaks it, and gives it to his disciples, saying, 'This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.' He also takes the cup, gives thanks, and says, 'This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.' After the meal, Jesus tells his disciples that one of them will betray him. This news shocks the disciples, and they begin to question among themselves who it could be. Jesus reassures them that the Son of Man will go as it has been decreed, but woe to the one who betrays him. Later that night, Jesus goes to the Mount of Olives to pray. He is in great anguish and prays to God, asking if there is any other way for the cup of suffering to be taken from him. However, he ultimately submits to God's will, saying, 'Not my will, but yours be done.' While Jesus is praying, his disciples fall asleep, unable to stay awake with him.
