Luke 24:1
On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb.
Luke 24 begins with the account of the resurrection of Jesus. On the first day of the week, early in the morning, some women went to Jesus' tomb with spices they had prepared. However, they found the stone rolled away and the tomb empty. Suddenly, two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning appeared to them and asked why they were looking for the living among the dead. They reminded the women of Jesus' words that He would rise from the dead on the third day. The women returned to the disciples and told them what had happened. However, the disciples did not believe them. Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying by themselves and went away, wondering what had happened. Later that day, two disciples were on their way to a village called Emmaus when Jesus Himself came up and walked along with them. However, they did not recognize Him. Jesus asked them what they were discussing, and they told Him about the events of Jesus' crucifixion and the empty tomb. Jesus then explained to them how everything that had happened was foretold in the Scriptures. When they arrived at Emmaus, Jesus revealed Himself to them in the breaking of bread. The disciples were filled with joy and returned to Jerusalem to tell the others about their encounter with the risen Jesus.
