Easy Bible・John 9
John 9:1
As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth.
In this chapter, Jesus encounters a man who was born blind. His disciples ask him who sinned, the man or his parents, that he was born blind. Jesus responds that neither the man nor his parents sinned, but that the man's blindness happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him. Jesus then proceeds to heal the man by spitting on the ground, making mud with the saliva, and applying it to the man's eyes. He tells the man to go and wash in the Pool of Siloam, and when the man does as Jesus instructed, he is able to see. The healing of the man born blind causes quite a stir among the religious leaders of the time. They question the man and his parents, trying to find a reason to discredit Jesus. The man boldly testifies about what Jesus did for him, saying that Jesus is a prophet. The religious leaders are divided in their opinions about Jesus, with some saying that he is a sinner and others acknowledging that no one has ever opened the eyes of a man born blind. In the end, the religious leaders cast out the man who was healed, and Jesus finds him and reveals himself to him as the Son of Man. The man believes in Jesus and worships him. Jesus then declares that he came into the world for judgment, so that those who do not see may see, and those who do see may become blind.
