Acts 2:1
When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.

About this Chapter

In Acts 2, on the day of Pentecost, the believers were all together in one place when suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. This event marked the coming of the Holy Spirit promised by Jesus before his ascension. The sound of the wind and the tongues of fire symbolize the power and presence of the Holy Spirit. The believers were filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke in different languages, enabling them to proclaim the wonders of God to people from various nations who had gathered in Jerusalem for the festival of Pentecost. Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, stood up and addressed the crowd, explaining to them that what they were witnessing was the fulfillment of the prophecy spoken by the prophet Joel. He preached about Jesus, his death, resurrection, and ascension, and called for repentance and baptism in the name of Jesus for the forgiveness of sins. About three thousand people accepted Peter's message and were baptized that day, becoming part of the early Christian community.
