Key Passages

Acts 3:1
One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer--at three in the afternoon.

About this Chapter

In Acts 3, Peter and John went to the temple to pray and encountered a lame beggar at the Beautiful Gate. The beggar asked them for money, but they didn't have any. Instead, Peter said to him, 'Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.' Peter then took the beggar by the right hand and helped him up. Instantly, the beggar's feet and ankles became strong, and he began to walk, jump, and praise God. The people who witnessed this miracle were amazed and filled with wonder. They recognized the beggar as the one who used to sit at the temple gate begging for money. They were astonished at what had happened to him and gathered around Peter and John in Solomon's Colonnade. Peter took this opportunity to preach to the crowd, explaining that it was not by their own power or godliness that the beggar was healed, but by the power of Jesus. He urged the people to repent and turn to God, so that their sins may be wiped out and times of refreshing may come from the Lord. Peter emphasized that Jesus was the prophet foretold by Moses and that all the prophets, from Samuel onward, had spoken of these days. He called on the people to listen to Jesus and receive salvation through him.
