Acts 8:26
Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, "Go south to the road--the desert road--that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza."
In Acts 8, Philip, one of the seven chosen to serve the early church, is directed by an angel to go to the desert road from Jerusalem to Gaza. On this road, he encounters an Ethiopian eunuch, a high official in charge of the treasury of the Queen of Ethiopia. The eunuch is reading from the book of Isaiah, but he doesn't understand what he is reading. Philip approaches the eunuch and asks if he understands what he is reading. The eunuch invites Philip to join him in his chariot, and Philip explains to him the passage from Isaiah that he is reading. The eunuch is reading from Isaiah 53:7-8, which prophesies about Jesus being led like a lamb to the slaughter and being denied justice. Philip uses this passage to share the good news of Jesus with the eunuch. As they continue on the road, they come across a body of water, and the eunuch asks to be baptized. Philip baptizes him, and the eunuch goes on his way rejoicing. This encounter between Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch shows the power of the Holy Spirit in guiding believers to share the gospel and the inclusiveness of God's salvation plan, as the eunuch, a Gentile and a eunuch, is welcomed into the family of God.
