Acts 13:2
While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them."
In Acts 13, the church in Antioch was worshiping and fasting when the Holy Spirit spoke to them and set apart Paul and Barnabas for a special mission. The believers laid their hands on them and sent them off. They were sent to Cyprus, where they proclaimed the word of God in the synagogues. When they arrived in Cyprus, they met a sorcerer named Bar-Jesus, also known as Elymas, who opposed them and tried to turn the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, away from the faith. Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, confronted Elymas and pronounced a temporary blindness on him. This miracle astounded the proconsul, and he believed in the teachings of the Lord. From there, Paul and Barnabas traveled to Pisidian Antioch, where they went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day. Paul was invited to speak, and he delivered a powerful sermon, recounting the history of Israel and how Jesus fulfilled the prophecies of the Old Testament. Many Jews and Gentiles believed, but some Jews became jealous and stirred up persecution against Paul and Barnabas. As a result, they were expelled from the region.
