Acts 14:1
At Iconium Paul and Barnabas went as usual into the Jewish synagogue. There they spoke so effectively that a great number of Jews and Gentiles believed.
In Iconium, Paul and Barnabas entered the Jewish synagogue and spoke in such a way that a great number of both Jews and Greeks believed. However, the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles and poisoned their minds against the apostles. Paul and Barnabas stayed there for a long time, speaking boldly about the Lord, and the Lord confirmed their message by granting signs and wonders to be done through their hands. In Lystra, Paul healed a man who was lame from birth. When the people saw what Paul had done, they started calling him and Barnabas gods and wanted to offer sacrifices to them. Paul and Barnabas quickly corrected them, telling them that they were mere humans bringing them the good news of the living God. However, some Jews from Iconium came and won the crowd over, stoning Paul and dragging him outside the city, thinking he was dead. But when the disciples gathered around him, Paul got up and went back into the city. The next day, he and Barnabas left for Derbe, where they preached the gospel and made many disciples. After strengthening the disciples and appointing elders in each church, Paul and Barnabas returned to Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch, encouraging the believers and reminding them to remain true to the faith, for it is through many hardships that we must enter the kingdom of God.
