Acts 15:1
Some men came down from Judea to Antioch and were teaching the brothers: "Unless you are circumcised, according to the custom taught by Moses, you cannot be saved."

About this Chapter

In Acts 15, a dispute arises in the early Christian community regarding whether Gentile believers should be circumcised and follow the Law of Moses. The key leaders of the church, including Paul and Barnabas, travel to Jerusalem to discuss this issue with the apostles and elders. At the Jerusalem Council, Peter shares how God had shown His acceptance of the Gentiles by giving them the Holy Spirit, just as He had done with the Jewish believers. Paul and Barnabas then testify about the miracles and conversions among the Gentiles, emphasizing that salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone. After much debate, James, the brother of Jesus and the leader of the Jerusalem church, delivers a decision. He concludes that the Gentile believers should not be burdened with the requirements of the Law of Moses, but they should abstain from certain practices that would offend Jewish believers. This decision brings unity and peace to the early Christian community.
