Romans 1:16
I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.
Romans 1 is a powerful chapter that emphasizes the importance of the gospel. The key verse, Romans 1:16, states, 'For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.' This verse highlights the transformative power of the gospel and the universal offer of salvation. In the earlier verses of Romans 1, Paul introduces himself and expresses his desire to visit the Roman church. He also acknowledges the faith and reputation of the believers in Rome. However, he goes on to address the issue of sin and its consequences. Paul emphasizes that all people, both Jews and Gentiles, are guilty before God and in need of salvation. Paul then describes the downward spiral of humanity's rebellion against God. He explains how people suppress the truth about God and exchange the glory of the immortal God for idols. As a result, they are given over to their sinful desires and engage in all sorts of wickedness. Paul makes it clear that this is the consequence of rejecting God and his truth.
