1 Corinthians 5:1
It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that does not occur even among pagans: A man has his father's wife.

About this Chapter

In this chapter, Paul addresses a serious issue of immorality within the Corinthian church. He condemns the church for tolerating a man who is involved in a sexual relationship with his stepmother, a sin that even the pagans would find unacceptable. Paul emphasizes the importance of maintaining purity within the church and urges the Corinthians to remove the sinful man from their midst. Paul explains that although he is not physically present with them, he has already made a judgment on the matter. He instructs the Corinthians to gather together in the name of the Lord Jesus and with his authority, to hand the man over to Satan for the destruction of his flesh, so that his spirit may be saved on the day of the Lord. Paul warns the Corinthians about the influence of a little leaven, comparing it to the sinful behavior that has infiltrated their community. He urges them to cleanse out the old leaven and become a new lump, unleavened and pure. He concludes by reminding them of the importance of celebrating the Passover feast with sincerity and truth, as Christ, their Passover lamb, has been sacrificed for them.
