1 Corinthians 6:19
Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;
In 1 Corinthians 6, the apostle Paul addresses the issue of sexual immorality among the believers in Corinth. He starts by rebuking them for taking their disputes to the secular courts instead of resolving them within the church. Paul reminds them that as believers, they will one day judge the world and even angels, so they should be able to handle their own disputes. He then shifts his focus to the issue of sexual immorality and emphasizes the importance of fleeing from it. Paul reminds the believers that their bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who dwells in them, and that they have been bought with a price. Therefore, they should honor God with their bodies and abstain from sexual immorality. Paul goes on to specifically address the sin of sexual immorality, warning the believers against engaging in sexual immorality with prostitutes. He explains that when believers unite with a prostitute, they become one body with her, and this act is contrary to the unity they have with Christ. Paul urges the believers to flee from sexual immorality and to pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace. He reminds them that their bodies are members of Christ and temples of the Holy Spirit, and therefore, they should not defile themselves with sexual sin. In conclusion, 1 Corinthians 6 teaches us the importance of fleeing from sexual immorality and honoring God with our bodies. As believers, we are temples of the Holy Spirit, and we have been bought with a price. Therefore, we should abstain from sexual immorality and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace.
