Easy Bible・1 Corinthians 9
1 Corinthians 9:1
Am I not free? Am I not an apostle? Have I not seen Jesus our Lord? Are you not the result of my work in the Lord?
In this chapter, Paul defends his rights as an apostle and shares his personal sacrifices for the sake of the gospel. He begins by asserting his apostleship and affirming that he has seen the Lord Jesus. Paul then goes on to question the Corinthians' lack of recognition and support for his ministry, reminding them that even secular workers receive fair compensation for their labor. However, Paul willingly forgoes his right to financial support from the Corinthians in order to remove any potential obstacle to the gospel. He explains that he becomes all things to all people, adapting his approach to different groups, in order to win them for Christ. Paul uses the example of athletes who train and compete for a perishable crown, contrasting it with the imperishable crown that believers strive for. He emphasizes the importance of self-discipline and not being disqualified from the race. Paul concludes by encouraging the Corinthians to imitate him as he imitates Christ.
