1 Corinthians 10:11
These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the fulfillment of the ages has come.

About this Chapter

In this chapter, the apostle Paul warns the Corinthians about the dangers of idolatry and immorality by drawing lessons from the history of the Israelites. He reminds them of how the Israelites were all under the cloud and passed through the sea, and how they all ate the same spiritual food and drank the same spiritual drink. However, despite experiencing God's miraculous provision and guidance, many of them fell into idolatry and immorality, resulting in their destruction. Paul emphasizes that these things happened as examples for the Corinthians, serving as a warning for them not to follow in the same footsteps. He cautions them against craving evil things, engaging in sexual immorality, testing the Lord, and grumbling, just as the Israelites did. Paul reminds them that God is faithful and will not let them be tempted beyond what they can bear, but will provide a way out so that they can endure it. The apostle concludes by urging the Corinthians to flee from idolatry and to be mindful of the impact their actions may have on others. He encourages them to do everything for the glory of God and to imitate him as he imitates Christ. By learning from the mistakes of the Israelites and staying faithful to God, the Corinthians can avoid the pitfalls of idolatry and immorality.
