2 Corinthians 8:1
And now, brothers, we want you to know about the grace that God has given the Macedonian churches.

About this Chapter

In this chapter, Paul encourages the Corinthian believers to excel in the grace of giving. He uses the example of the Macedonian churches who, even in their extreme poverty, gave generously to support the needs of the saints. Paul emphasizes that giving is not only a matter of financial contribution, but also a reflection of one's love and commitment to God and others. He reminds the Corinthians of the generosity of Jesus, who, though being rich, became poor for their sake, and urges them to follow His example by giving willingly and cheerfully. Paul explains that giving is not a burden, but a privilege and an opportunity to participate in the work of God. He encourages the Corinthians to give according to their means, willingly and not under compulsion. He assures them that God will provide abundantly for their needs as they sow generously. Paul also emphasizes the importance of equality in giving, so that those who have abundance can share with those who are in need. He reminds them that their giving not only meets the needs of others, but also brings thanksgiving to God. In conclusion, Paul commends Titus and two other brothers who were chosen to accompany him in the collection of the Corinthians' gift. He urges the Corinthians to show their love and prove their sincerity by completing their promised contribution. He assures them that their generosity will not only bless the recipients, but also bring glory to God. Paul ends this chapter by expressing his confidence in the Corinthians, affirming their willingness and ability to excel in every good work, including the act of giving.
