Galatians 2:16
know that a man is not justified by observing the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by observing the law, because by observing the law no one will be justified.
In Galatians 2, the apostle Paul confronts the false teaching that salvation comes through observing the Jewish law. He emphasizes that we are justified by faith in Christ, not by our works of the law. Paul argues that even though we are Jews by birth, we know that a person is not justified by the works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. He says that we have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law, because by the works of the law no one will be justified. Paul also shares a personal experience to support his argument. He recounts a confrontation he had with the apostle Peter in Antioch. Peter, who had been eating with Gentile believers, withdrew and separated himself from them when certain Jewish believers came from James. Paul rebukes Peter openly, reminding him that we are justified by faith in Christ and not by observing the law. Paul emphasizes that if righteousness could be gained through the law, then Christ died for nothing.
