Ephesians 2:8
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God--

About this Chapter

In Ephesians 2, the apostle Paul emphasizes that salvation is a gift from God, received through faith in Jesus Christ. He reminds the Ephesian believers that they were once dead in their sins, following the ways of the world and the devil. However, God, who is rich in mercy, made them alive in Christ. It is not by their own works or efforts that they are saved, but it is a result of God's grace. Paul explains that salvation is not something that can be earned or deserved, but it is a gift freely given by God. It is through faith in Jesus Christ that believers are saved. This faith is not something that they conjure up on their own, but it is also a gift from God. It is by God's grace that they are saved, and not by any works they may do. Furthermore, Paul emphasizes that this salvation is not only for the Jews, but also for the Gentiles. Through Jesus Christ, both Jews and Gentiles have been reconciled to God and have become one body, the church. They are no longer separated by their differences, but are united in Christ.
