Easy Bible・1 Thessalonians 2
1 Thessalonians 2:4
On the contrary, we speak as men approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel. We are not trying to please men but God, who tests our hearts.
In this chapter, Paul reflects on his ministry in Thessalonica and his relationship with the Thessalonians. He emphasizes that his preaching was not motivated by deceit or impure motives, but rather by a desire to please God. Paul and his companions faced opposition and persecution, but they were bold in sharing the gospel and persevered in their ministry. He describes his approach as gentle and caring, like a nursing mother or a father encouraging his own children. The Thessalonians received the message with joy and became imitators of the churches in Judea, enduring suffering for their faith. Paul reminds the Thessalonians that they are witnesses of their conduct and their genuine love for them. He expresses his longing to see them again and his efforts to visit them, but Satan hindered their plans. Despite the obstacles, Paul assures them that they are in his thoughts and prayers. He encourages them to stand firm in their faith and to live in a way that pleases God, reminding them of their calling as God's chosen people. Paul concludes by expressing his deep affection for the Thessalonians and his desire to be with them. He acknowledges that they are his hope, joy, and crown of boasting before the Lord. He prays for God's grace to be with them all.
