Easy Bible・2 Timothy 1
2 Timothy 1:7
For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.
In this chapter, the apostle Paul writes a letter to Timothy, his dear son in the faith. Paul reminds Timothy of his sincere faith, which was passed down to him through his grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice. He encourages Timothy to fan into flame the gift of God, which was given to him through the laying on of Paul's hands. Paul emphasizes the importance of not being ashamed of the gospel or of Paul, who is imprisoned for the sake of Christ. Instead, Timothy is urged to join Paul in suffering for the gospel, relying on the power of God. Paul reassures Timothy that God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-discipline. Paul also mentions some people who deserted him, but he prays for Onesiphorus, who often refreshed him and was not ashamed of Paul's chains. Paul expresses his desire to see Onesiphorus again and sends greetings to Timothy's household.
