Easy Bible・1 Peter 2
1 Peter 2:9
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
In 1 Peter 2, Peter encourages believers to live as God's chosen people, emphasizing the importance of holiness and obedience. He reminds them that they are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, and God's special possession. Peter urges them to abstain from sinful desires and to live honorable lives among the Gentiles, so that they may glorify God. He encourages them to submit to human authority, even in the face of suffering, following the example of Christ who endured unjust suffering for our sake. Peter also addresses the role of slaves, instructing them to submit to their masters with respect and fear, not only to those who are kind and gentle, but also to those who are harsh. Peter highlights the importance of enduring suffering unjustly, for it is commendable before God. He reminds them that Christ, who committed no sin, bore our sins on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live for righteousness. Peter concludes by emphasizing the example of Christ, who entrusted himself to God, even in the midst of suffering, and encourages believers to follow in his footsteps. In this chapter, Peter reminds believers of their identity as God's chosen people and calls them to live in a way that reflects their new identity. He emphasizes the importance of holiness, obedience, and submission to authority, even in the face of suffering. Peter also points to the example of Christ, who endured unjust suffering for our sake, as the ultimate model of how to live. Through their honorable conduct and endurance in suffering, believers can bring glory to God and bear witness to the transforming power of the gospel.
