2 Peter 1:3
His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.

About this Chapter

In this chapter, Peter encourages believers to grow in their knowledge of God and to live a godly life. He reminds them of the precious promises of God and encourages them to make every effort to add to their faith virtue, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness, and love. Peter emphasizes that these qualities will keep them from being ineffective and unproductive in their knowledge of Jesus Christ. Peter also reminds the believers of his own eyewitness account of Jesus' transfiguration, where he saw Jesus in His glory and heard the voice of God affirming Jesus as His beloved Son. He encourages them to pay attention to the prophetic message of the Scriptures, which is like a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in their hearts. Peter warns the believers about false teachers who will come among them, spreading destructive heresies and denying the Lord who bought them. He assures them that these false teachers will face judgment and destruction. Peter encourages the believers to remain steadfast in their faith and to grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ.
