About this Chapter

The book of Revelation begins with the apostle John receiving a vision from Jesus Christ. John is instructed to write down what he sees and send it to the seven churches in Asia. This vision is a revelation of Jesus Christ and it is meant to show his servants what must soon take place. In his vision, John sees Jesus standing among seven golden lampstands. Jesus holds seven stars in his right hand, which represent the angels of the seven churches. Jesus reveals himself as the First and the Last, the Living One who was dead but is now alive forevermore. He holds the keys of death and Hades. Jesus instructs John to write down everything he sees and send it to the seven churches. He specifically addresses each church and provides them with both commendations and warnings. This vision serves as an introduction to the book of Revelation, setting the stage for the prophetic messages that will follow.
