Revelation 2:1
"To the angel of the church in Ephesus write: These are the words of him who holds the seven stars in his right hand and walks among the seven golden lampstands:
Revelation 2 begins with a letter to the church in Ephesus. Jesus commends the church for their hard work, perseverance, and their refusal to tolerate wicked people. However, he rebukes them for forsaking their first love. Jesus urges them to repent and do the things they did at first. If they do not repent, Jesus warns that he will remove their lampstand from its place. The letter to the church in Smyrna follows. Jesus acknowledges their afflictions and poverty but encourages them to remain faithful, even in the face of persecution. He promises them the crown of life and warns them not to fear the second death. Next, the letter to the church in Pergamum is presented. Jesus commends the church for holding fast to his name and not renouncing their faith. However, he rebukes them for tolerating those who hold to the teachings of Balaam and the Nicolaitans. Jesus calls them to repent, or else he will come and fight against them with the sword of his mouth. Lastly, the letter to the church in Thyatira is given. Jesus commends them for their love, faith, service, and perseverance. However, he rebukes them for tolerating a false prophetess named Jezebel, who leads his servants astray. Jesus warns that he will cast her and her followers into a bed of suffering, unless they repent. He also promises to give authority over the nations to those who overcome and keep his works until the end.
