"To the angel of the church in Sardis write: These are the words of him who holds the seven spirits of God and the seven stars. I know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead.

About this Chapter

In this chapter, Jesus sends a message to the church in Sardis. He starts by saying that although they have a reputation for being alive, they are actually dead. He urges them to wake up and strengthen what remains before it dies completely. Jesus warns them that if they do not wake up, he will come like a thief and they will not know at what time he will come. He advises them to remember what they have received and heard, and to hold fast to it and repent. Jesus also mentions that there are a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their clothes, and they will walk with him, dressed in white. He promises that those who overcome will be dressed in white and their names will not be erased from the book of life.
