Revelation 4:2
At once I was in the Spirit, and there before me was a throne in heaven with someone sitting on it.
In Revelation 4, John is taken up in the Spirit and sees a door standing open in heaven. He hears a voice inviting him to come up and witness what must take place after this. Immediately, John is in the presence of God and sees a magnificent throne in heaven with someone seated on it. The description of the throne and the one seated on it is filled with symbolism and imagery. The appearance of the one seated on the throne is like jasper and carnelian, representing the glory and majesty of God. Around the throne are twenty-four elders, dressed in white and wearing golden crowns. These elders symbolize the redeemed people of God, representing both the twelve tribes of Israel and the twelve apostles. Lightning and thunder come from the throne, and in front of it are seven lamps, which are the seven spirits of God. The scene in heaven is filled with worship and adoration. The twenty-four elders fall down before the one seated on the throne, casting their crowns before Him and declaring His worthiness to receive glory, honor, and power. They acknowledge that God is the Creator of all things and that everything exists because of His will.
