Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea.

About this Chapter

In Revelation 21, John sees a vision of a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. He also sees the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. God will dwell with his people, and he will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death, mourning, crying, or pain, for the old order of things has passed away. The one sitting on the throne declares, 'I am making everything new!' The new Jerusalem is described as a city of great beauty and glory, with walls made of jasper and gates made of pearls. The city has twelve foundations, with the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb written on them. The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp.
