Word of Life

Ah, the beauty of pondering the life and teachings of Jesus, the embodiment of love and wisdom. When we delve into the Gospels, we witness the profound manner in which Jesus perceived life. Though divine, He chose to walk among us, embracing humanity in its fullness. In Philippians 2:7, we read of His divine humility: “...he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.” Jesus willingly experienced life through our eyes, feeling our joys and sorrows, understanding our struggles and triumphs. His perspective was both divine and deeply human, a harmonious blend that allowed Him to empathize with us wholly. Consider the account in John 11, where Jesus weeps at the tomb of Lazarus. Though He knew the glory to come, He entered into the shared sorrow of those around Him, demonstrating His profound compassion and understanding. His perspective was not distant or detached but intimately connected with our human experience. And yet, in Matthew 26:39, in the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus prayed, “...not as I will, but as you will.” Here we see the divine perspective, a surrender to the Father’s will, transcending human circumstances to fulfill the greater purpose of love and redemption for all. Thus, Jesus’ perspective was a beautiful tapestry of divine insight and human empathy, inviting us to see life through the lens of love, compassion, and grace. May we learn to embrace such a perspective, seeing the world with eyes of understanding and hearts full of love.

Bible Commentary

Philippians 2:5-7 encourages believers to adopt the mindset of Christ, who, despite His divine nature, chose humility. He emptied Himself, taking on human form, exemplifying ultimate selflessness.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for the example of Jesus, who, despite being divine, chose humility and servanthood. Help us to see life through His perspective, embracing humility and service to others. Guide us to live with His mindset in our daily lives. In Jesus Christ's name, we pray. Amen.
