Word of Life

Beloved child of God, In His infinite wisdom and love, our Savior, Jesus Christ, shared profound teachings about money, guiding us towards a life of balance, generosity, and trust in God's provision. One of His most poignant teachings on this matter is found in the Gospel of Matthew: "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." (Matthew 6:19-21, NIV) Jesus encourages us to focus not on earthly wealth, which is fleeting and vulnerable, but on heavenly treasures that are eternal. He calls us to align our hearts with heavenly values, fostering a spirit of generosity and dependence on God's provision. In another instance, Jesus teaches us the importance of using our resources to serve others and honor God: "Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." (Luke 6:38, NIV) He reminds us that the act of giving is blessed and that God, in His abundant grace, will return to us more than we can imagine. Let us, therefore, embrace a heart of gratitude and generosity, trusting in the Lord's faithful provision, and always seeking to use our resources to further His kingdom and love one another. Bible Commentary

Matthew 6:24 states, "No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money." This verse emphasizes the impossibility of being equally devoted to two conflicting priorities. Jesus teaches that our hearts cannot be divided between God and worldly wealth. True devotion requires undivided loyalty. The verse calls for a choice between spiritual commitment and materialism. Serving God demands full allegiance, while the pursuit of wealth can lead to neglecting spiritual values.

Prayer

God our Father, Thank You for Your wisdom and guidance. Help us to understand that we cannot serve both You and money. Teach us to prioritize our devotion to You above all else. May we use our resources to honor You and serve others, not letting wealth control our hearts. Guide us to be faithful stewards of what You have given us. In Jesus Christ's name we pray. Amen.
